ASUCM Passes Resolution Supporting the California High-Speed Rail Project

May 14, 2015

On April 14th, 2015 the ASUCM senate passed a resolution supporting the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s mission of implementing a high-speed rail system that is designed to reach speeds over 200mph and transport travelers from San Francisco to Los Angeles in under three hours. ASUCM voted for this resolution because this project will provide Merced with more access and has the ability to positively affect UC Merced, Merced, and the entire Central Valley. This system will have a station in various cities across the state, including Merced, and will tie California’s economic, entertainment and cultural hubs to one another. Once completed, students may use this transportation alternative to travel home in an environmentally conscious, sustainable way. Construction first began in Fresno of 2014 and is expected to annually create 20,000 jobs, many of which will be in the Central Valley. This resolution will be presented to the Merced City Council by members of ASUCM.
