ASUCM Opens Application for Strategic Investments

October 14, 2015

This year ASUCM created a strategic investments committee composed of the President, Treasurer and members of the senate. This committee was tasked with finding ways in which ASUCM would have the opportunity to engage in cross-campus collaboration with various campus departments. The strategic investments committee decided that the best way to do so would be to provide departments with financial support for projects that they may be currently working on or planning to start within the semester or year.

The committee has set aside an allocation of $125,000 to provide financial assistance for these projects and all campus departments may submit a proposal to be considered for funding. Departments have the option to submit multiple proposals, however the committee reserves the right to fund singular or multiple projects.

We are accepting proposals that fall under the following criteria:

  • Projects that benefits all students
  • Tangible and visual projects
  • Serves as a service that does not exist on campus currently
  • Has a desire/need on our campus
  • Minimum of $5,000
  • Maximum of $50,000
  • Money must be spent by June 30, 2016

If your department is currently working on or has plans to work on a project and would like financial support from ASUCM, please submit a preliminary proposal. The proposal includes a detailed description:

  • What the project is
  • Why this project is needed on our campus
  • Campus impact of the project
  • What the project encompasses and other information critical to describing the project
  • Key project personnel
  • All collaborators involved (i.e. additional departments)
  • Campus knowledge of the project
  • Timeline of project
  • A detailed budget for the project.

Expect an email back that confirms you have submitted the proposal email. The timeline for proposals is as follows, the application period closes on November 8, 2015 at 5pm. During the week of November 9, 2015 departments will be notified so that can select a time to present their proposal in person to the committee. The in person presentations will take place during the week of November 16, 2015. Final decisions will be made and departments will be notified the week of December 1, 2015. If your project is selected to receive funding from ASUCM, it is with the understanding that the project will display a “sponsored by ASUCM” plaque or previously agreed upon recognition. If you have any inquiries or concerns, please email the ASUCM Treasurer Joshua Bustamante at ascumtreasurer@ucmerced.edu.

Best,

Domonique Jones, ASUCM President
