Status:
In Progress On December 17, 2010, Tunisian college graduate Mohamed Bouazizi, driven to desperation by poverty, lit himself on fire, and engulfed the Arab region in a turmoil which lasts through this day. In January 2011, the people of Egypt rose up in open protest and toppled the oppressive regime of Hosni Mubarak, proving that ultimately, the will of the people prevails. As the light of revolution burns across the Arab world, the road to liberty and democracy is blocked, brutally, by the regimes they seek to overthrow in the pursuit of their human rights.
