ASUCM Senate Bill # 28 – 2009/2010

Status:
In Progress

The Hmong Student Association (H.S.A.) was established to help students in college gain a deeper understanding of their heritage, advocate community involvement, promote higher education and embrace leadership roles. According to the vision of H.S.A., our events, such as our “One Day Tour” and “Educational Conference”, were created to encourage Hmong youth to continue their education beyond high school. In addition, we aim to incorporate the integrity of the Hmong culture, traditions, and history into their lives. These events are creative outlets for generating discussion about issues that need to be addressed within the Hmong community. During the Hmong New Year celebration in Merced, our organization has been actively involved with the Hmong community by holding activities such as the “You Are Beautiful” project and helping others set goals to reach for in our Hmong story cloth, “paj ntaub”. On campus, HSA serves as a resource for people of a shared history to come together to build strong social bonds. Alongside our continued support for students to succeed academically during their time at UC Merced, we have constructed various activities to appeal to all of our members’ such as “Hmong Gatherings” and “Hmong Talk” for students to discuss and better understanding Hmong history, traditions, and current issues and events.
